Yesterday I documented some of the interesting elements encountered on my walk to lunch with my iPhone. (Interesting to me at least.) Coupled with a brief comment recently made by someone I respect about possibly starting a website featuring his iPhone photos, I gave the idea some thought. As much as I carry my camera with me, there are times and places, especially in rainy Oregon, where it is not as feasible nor appealing to use it.
I know one of the big knocks by some on the iPhone is it’s lack of a good camera, but to be honest I quite like it. It has allowed me to document Liam’s life and share that with family and friends. And I’m not trying to create art, or even great photos, but to document those aspects of and encounters in my life that I find interesting and ‘capturable’.
And while I’m not trying to create art, it doesn’t mean that I don’t want to use the iPhone artistically. Like the fascination with toy cameras, holga, etc. the limitations of the iPhone actually add to the appeal.
Of course, the question is what to do with this? Right now, I’m thinking of setting up a Tumblr account. And if you follow this link it will bring you to my page. Great another page/blog/account! How am I going to integrate all of this? Is it worth it? More work, split attentions? What about this blog? Do I want the tumblr blog to be exclusively iPhone photos? Do I want to move my non-personal, non-photography links and observations from this blog to the tumblr page as well?
Well, I don’t know yet. The Tumblr account is set up, and I guess we’ll see how it goes over the next couple of weeks at least.
