Unfortunately, if you google '1959 crash test' and look at all the blogs and discussions surrounding it since September, there are many, many stupid people that think the test was 'rigged'. Everything from 'it was rusty', to 'it had no engine', to parts of the frame must have been strategically cut to make it collapse that way'. It did not turn out the way they thought it would, so there has to be all these conspiracy theories out there. None of this is true. These ignorant idiots refuse to see the realities of physics, structural design, and impact absorption due to crumple zones. The 1959 had a poor 'X' frame structure. And that structure is down there, under the passengers, but the passengers are above it, surrounded by hollow sheet metal with no structural strength tying back to the frame, and far too few bolts attaching to the frame as well. And no, the old car is not that heavy - only 180 pounds or so heavier.
