Wedding Photographer, Salem, Oregon

Wedding Photography, Oregon

I’m often asked if I shoot weddings.

I don’t advertise I do weddings. (this post excepted)

The answer is more complicated than it should be. But the quick and easy answer is yes, I do shoot weddings.

To briefly elaborate, I think it’s fairly important that you like and respect your photographer to get the results you desire. As I feel strongly about this, I don’t just accept any job, especially weddings, unless we meet first and decide if we are a ‘fit’ for one another.

This is a (severely) abridged example of a wedding I shot recently in Forest Grove, Oregon:

Top 20 Stupid Client Quotes

1  AndyK #7225  |   Rating: 4.82

It was a late evening call from a former potential photography client. “Hello, XYZ Photography, this is Andy speaking.” “Hi, I’m Michelle, I talked to you a few months back about taking pictures at my wedding, but we decided you were too expensive so we hired ABCD Photography instead. They were over $100 cheaper!” Me: “Yes, I do recall that, so how can I help you?” Her: “Well, we just got the pictures back [10 weeks after the wedding, much longer than my 2-3 week guaranteed delivery] and they look pretty bad. Well, there are a few good ones, but most are really bad.” Me: “I don’t understand, if you have a problem with the pictures, shouldn’t you be calling ABCD Photography?” Her: “Well, I don’t think the other photographer knew what she was doing, so we wondered if you could maybe fix some of the pictures?” Me: “How many pictures need fixing?” Her: “Well, she gave us 400 pictures on a CD, and I guess about 10 or 15 look good. We figured you would know how to do lots of neat stuff on the computer to make the pictures look better, since all the ones on your web site look great and the printed samples you have look fabulous. See, the thing is, we spent all our money on the wedding and kinda need somebody to do it for free, and was just wondering…” Me: click Disclaimer: all company names and individual names are fictitious but the rest of it is unfortunately true.

Elvis has entered the building

Elvis has entered the building

Jeff and Rita held their wedding a couple of weeks ago. I was lucky enough to be able to shoot it for them. Jeff was willing/wanting to have a Las Vegas wedding, while Rita was more inclined to have a wedding where more friends and family would be able to celebrate the special occasion with them. Though it is widely known, it still must be stated, Rita is one very cool lady. Knowing Jeff’s affinity for Elvis (sidenote: Both Jeff & I prefer the old fat Elvis), and his interest in having Elvis preside over a Las Vegas wedding, she did the next best thing.

She had Steven, who would be presiding, fake a reason to leave just as the ceremony was beginning and leave Jeff standing at the altar. The procession begins and still no Steve. You can just see the confusion and frustration mounting on Jeff’s visage, when finally, here comes Steve – dressed as Elvis!. How much does Rita Rock?!?
